Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Whimsy 101

What if I’ve never painted before?

No worries and no experience necessary! Our friendly teaching artist will guide you step-by-step through the entire process. You’ll leave with a finished piece of art that YOU have created!  Our classes are great for novice or experienced painters alike. We believe that it's more about having fun than being perfect.

When should I arrive?

Plan to arrive 20-30 minutes early to settle in, get a drink, and enjoy the atmosphere. Late arrivals disrupt the entire class, so if you think you will be more than 15 minutes late, you'll probably want to reschedule. We want everyone to have a fun night out, so please be considerate of your fellow artists by arriving in a timely manner. Thank you!

What should I wear?

Speaking of a fun night, please don't wear or bring valuable clothes, shoes or handbags. Although we provide aprons, and we use water-based acrylic, when paint dries, it does not come out of clothing, canvas or leather. Paint splashes and drips – please plan accordingly!

Reservations, Walk-Ins, Cancellations

How do I reserve an easel?

It's easy! Click on the calendar tab OR any of the "Reserve My Easel" buttons from either your computer or mobile phone. View offerings "by agenda" or "by month" and browse through the beautiful Whimsy paintings planned for the next few weeks. Choose the date for the class you'd like to attend, and complete the simple reservation form. You will get an email confirmation and an opportunity to share your RSVP with your friends so they can join you for a fun night out! You will also get an email reminder 48 hours before your scheduled class.

Do you accept Walk-Ins?

We prefer that you make a reservation, so we can properly staff our studio and prepare for your arrival. Please visit our studio calendar to make your reservation.  If you have a last minute addition to your party, or would prefer to walk-in, please call us or email us in advance, and plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of class.

Can I cancel or reschedule a class?

Whimsy does not offer refunds, but we are happy to reschedule your reservation for another class. If you must reschedule, please do so ONE FULL DAY (24 hours) prior to your scheduled class. This will give us time to sell your seat to someone else or offer it to someone who is on our waiting list. Gift certificates or account credit can only be used towards painting events and cannot be used for bar credit. Thank you for your consideration!

Prices, Coupons, Tips

How much does it cost?

Our adult and family painting classes are $40 per person. There is a 4%  booking fee for online reservations.

When will I be charged?

Your credit card will be charged upon making a reservation. We do accept walk-ins, however sometimes classes are sold out, so we recommend securing your seats in advance. We're happy to open a tab for you for drinks, snacks, gift shop items, and tips. These purchases are charged to your card at the end of the class.

Tipping

We love when our customers are feeling a little "tipsy"! We work hard to earn your gratitutde.

Large Parties and Seating

I’m planning for a large group to come in for a class. How do we register?

Large groups of 10 or more receive 10-25% discount when booking seats for a regularly-scheduled class. Discounts only apply when booking as a group. One person will register and pay for the group. Alternatively, each person can register separately to the same class (no discount applies) and we will be happy to seat you together. Either way, once registered, Whimsy makes it very easy for you to share a direct link to your class through Facebook, Twitter, Text or email so you can invite more friends! The more the merrier! TIP: Make sure everyone registers early so they don't get put on a waitlist. Maximum occupancy is 45 seats.

We registered separately. Can we sit together?

We do not assign seating, but we do provide "save this seat" signs for the first person in your party who checks in. Arrive early with plenty of time to get settled in your seat and order a drink. P.S. We want to make sure you have a great night no matter who you sit next to! You'll make a beautiful painting and maybe a new friend or two!

Does Whimsy offer private parties?

We have several options if you would like to reserve a private party: 1. Book a Party (during Open Studio hours), 2. Book the Studio (during regularly-scheduled class times, surcharges may apply) or, 3. Book Whimsy on the Gogh™ where we bring the party to you! Just give us a call and we'll be happy to find a time for you and your friends, family or co-workers! 303-373-5555. More information can be found on our party page at makeitwhimsy.com/party

Kids and Non-Painters

Can children register for a painting class with me?

  • Yes! Children ages 7+ are warmly welcomed, with a painting adult, at any Open Studio, or Family Class at 10:30am or 2:30pm.

  • Regular evening classes are ages 16+. This is an adult’s night out, so please, no infants or young children.

There is no canvas sharing: One canvas, one artist.

Can I just "sip" and hang out while I watch my friend/child paint?

Every seat has an easel, a canvas, and a painting class fee, why not paint? You’ll be glad you did! Additionally, our focus is to promote a creative environment for our painting guests and instructors, so if you decide not to paint, we ask that you do not linger in the studio. Feel free to enjoy beautiful shops and services at Northfield Mall while your friends and family paint and sip at Whimsy Studios. Each class lasts about 2.5 hours.

Food and Drink Questions

Can I BYOB?

BYOB is illegal in Colorado! No outside liquids can be brought into the studio due to State Liquor laws. But you can buy a wide variety of OUR liquids: Delicious cocktails, beer, wine, coffee & tea, sodas, sparkling waters and more. Thank you for your cooperation.

What is there to eat?

You're welcome to bring prepared foods to enjoy at the studio, or check out our great selection of snacks and sweets available at the bar. We are happy to set up an extra table for private parties wishing to serve a cake or pizza. Just let us know in advance. No candles, please.

Are there restaurants nearby?

There are several great eateries throughout the Northfield Mall and Stapleton. Keep an eye out for cross-promotional specials with our neighbor restaurants for an EXTRA fun night of dinner, drinks, and art!

Painting Questions

Do I have to paint the painting for the night or can I go rogue?

You may paint whatever you wish and feel free to change your color palette! YOU are the artist... Follow your creative heart!

What if I don’t finish my painting?

You will! — it’s our job to guide you through to the beautiful end product.

What if I'm unhappy with my painting?

We hope that you have enjoyed the experience of painting as much as you enjoy your very own painting, but if you don’t like it, maybe someone else will! Give it as a gift! Or repaint it. Start over. It’s yours, you may do whatever you like with it! You may even want to donate it to a fundraising event!

How long does it take to dry? How do I transport it?

Your painting will feel dry to the touch after about ½ hour, but will continue to dry thoroughly for the next several days. We have hair dryers to help with drying time. After it’s dry to the touch, you can carefully handle it and transport it face up in your car trunk. We also have large plastic bags.

Can I bring my own art supplies?

Absolutely! You may bring any art supplies you’d like – within reason; no giant canvases, or welding equipment! You will still be responsible for the class fee. You may want to check out our ‘Open Studio’ where you can paint at your convenience. It is offered every weekday for only $30.

Do You Offer At-Home Painting Kits?

We sure do! Our pandemic-pivot business of Whimsy to Gogh art kits are still available! They have proved to be very popular and the accompanying FREE How to Make it Whimsy demonstration videos have garnered thousands of views. There are dozens options of beautiful paintings and projects in our Happy Painting Guide. Most kits are $30, made to order and available for in-studio pick up Monday-Friday. We hope you'll try one out!

Miscellaneous

May I purchase the paintings I see displayed on the wall?

Painting displayed on our two "classroom walls" and in our windows are our studio originals and not for sale. However, we do have a giant "Gallery and Shop" wall with dozens of paintings for sale in our Whimsy Art Bins. Only $35 plus tax. And check out our own Whimsy Team Gallery of original art, hand-painted art cards, larger matted and framed watercolors.

Will you do a custom painting for me?

Absolutely! We're happy to do special request for a private party for an additional $75. Our talented professional artists also offer private commission work. Pick up business cards and information from our front desk to arrange for a quote.

Do you offer other kinds of art classes? Private Instruction?

YES! Visit our calendar frequently to see all of our new offerings including wood signs, window paintings, collage, pour painting, fundraising nights, and more! Or send us an email to arrange for private instruction or special requests.

Does Whimsy have more than one location?

Whimsy Studios is an independently-owned and operated small business with one location at the Shops at Northfield in Denver. There is another paint and sip location with a similar name located about 20 miles north of Whimsy at the Orchard Town Center in Westminster. Many years ago the two studios were owned by the same family, however, they have always operated independently, and have never cross-honored reservations, gift cards, discounts or coupons. Since 2018, each of the studios has undergone transitions to new, separate ownerships and they continue to operate independently.

Old Whimsy Northfield Gift Certificates

Whimsy Northfield, LLC was dissolved as a business in 2018; Our new company, Whimsy Studios, purchased many of the assets of the Northfield business, like the tables and paintings, but not the gift certificates. As a courtesy to the former Northfield customers, Whimsy Studios honored gift certificates sold by the prior owners of Northfield for the first year we were in business, through 2022.

We are no longer able to accept old Whimsy Northfield credits and gift certificates issued prior to March 2022. Thank you for your understanding.
